From 1995 to 1998, he played in 48 regular season games and recorded 68 tackles and 12 sacks. He also recovered two fumbles and deflected one pass.[1] Professional careerPrior to the 1995 CFL Draft, Alexander was considered to be the most talented defensive lineman available based on his participation at a CFL evaluation camp.[2][3] He was widely projected to be taken in the first two rounds of the draft.[3][4][5] Alexander was selected in the bonus round with the fourth overall pick of the draft by the Saskatchewan Roughriders.[6]{{efn|The 1995 CFL Draft included a bonus round before the first round, where all teams who met the new $2.5 million salary cap would receive an extra pick.{{refn|{{cite news|last1=Matsumoto|first1=Rick|title=Former star knocks CFL game plan|work=Toronto Star|date=February 24, 1995|page=E8}}}}}} As a rookie, he played in 16 regular season games and made 24 tackles and one sack.[1] Alexander was the Roughriders' nominee for Rookie of the Year.[7] He recorded 13 tackles through 10 games in 1996 after missing over a month due to a back injury.[1][8][9] Alexander had his most successful season in 1997. He recorded three sacks on July 4 against the Edmonton Eskimos and led the CFL in sacks through the end of July.[10][11] Alexander made 28 tackles and 10 sacks in 1997, both career-highs.[1] He played in his only Grey Cup in the postseason, where the Roughriders lost the 85th Grey Cup to the Toronto Argonauts 47–23.[12] Alexander became a free agent before the 1998 season and signed with the BC Lions.[13] He dealt with injuries in 1998, playing in only 10 games.[1][14] The Montreal Alouettes acquired Alexander for training camp in 1999, but he left following a knee injury.[15][16] Notes{{notelist}}References1. ^1 2 3 4 {{cite book|last1=Maher|first1=Tod|last2=Gill|first2=Bob|title=The Canadian Pro Football Encyclopedia: Every Player, Coach and Game, 1946–2012|date=2013|publisher=Maher Sports Media|isbn=978-0983513667|page=142|pages=}} {{DEFAULTSORT:Alexander, Troy}}2. ^{{cite news|last1=Rauw|first1=Murray|title=Stampeders will pick seventh: With notable exception of some potential on O-line, talent pool not too deep|work=Calgary Herald|date=March 7, 1995|page=C5}} 3. ^1 {{cite news|last1=Rauw|first1=Murray|title=Calgary need can't be filled|work=Calgary Herald|date=March 11, 1995|page=D4}} 4. ^{{cite news|last1=Ruaw|first1=Murray|title=Stamps catch nice surprise|work=Calgary Herald|date=March 12, 1995|page=F3}} 5. ^{{cite news|last1=Kingston|first1=Gary|title=Canadian content remains big issue heading into draft|work=Vancouver Sun|date=March 10, 1995|page=A14}} 6. ^{{cite news|title=FOOTBALL CFL draft|work=Globe and Mail|date=March 13, 1995}} 7. ^{{cite news|title=Sapunjis replaces Flutie as CFL award nominee|work=Hamilton Spectator|agency=Canadian Press|date=October 26, 1995|page=D4}} 8. ^{{cite news|title=Scouting Report|work=The Gazette|date=August 11, 1996|page=B2}} 9. ^{{cite news|last1=Little|first1=Lyndon|title=Playoffs, not presidential race, interest Kemp|work=Vancouver Sun|date=September 21, 1996|page=FRONT}} 10. ^{{cite news|title=Eskimos rally, hold off Roughriders|work=Toronto Star|date=July 5, 1997|page=B6}} 11. ^{{cite news|title=MARTY YORK'S CFL PICKS|work=Globe and Mail|date=July 31, 1997|page=C11}} 12. ^{{cite news|title=Viewers' Guide Grey Cup : The 'Riders|work=Calgary Herald|date=November 16, 1997|page=B9}} 13. ^{{cite news|last1=Little|first1=Lyndon|title=Lions hope for a profitable year: Season ticket sales are slow, but the Lions' president is optimistic the club will roar at the box office.|work=Vancouver Sun|date=March 7, 1998|page=G7}} 14. ^{{cite news|last1=Klovance|first1=Rob|title=Lions' defender likes fast food and chasing down CFL pivots: Late-blooming Johnny Scott believes some extra fats in the body helps it recover from the rigours of playing and practising in the CFL.|work=Vancouver Sun|date=July 23, 1998|page=E1}} 15. ^{{cite news|last1=Zurkowsky|first1=Herb|title=Heart and Soles: Als veteran set to return; team signs Missouri quarterback|work=The Gazette|date=April 19, 1999|page=G6}} 16. ^{{cite news|last1=Zurkowsky|first1=Herb|title=Ham says he'll be ready for the opener|work=The Gazette|date=June 30, 1999|page=E3}} 10 : 1971 births|Living people|American football linebackers|Canadian football linebackers|Eastern Washington Eagles football players|Saskatchewan Roughriders players|BC Lions players|Canadian players of American football|Players of Canadian football from Alberta|Sportspeople from Edmonton |
