Ukrainian gymnasium №1 is a general educational establishment; gymnasium in Ivano-Frankivsk. A participant of the All-Ukrainian contest “The 100 Best Schools of Ukraine” (2006). Due to the results of ZNO (external independent evaluation) in Ukrainian Language and Literature in 2008, 2009 and 2015,^[1] it took the first place among the schools of Ukraine.

Entering the gymnasium is on a competitive basis and is based on the results of entrance examinations in Ukrainian language and mathematics. It is available for holders of primary school-leaving certificates from local schools (the fourth year of primary school).

History of gymnasium

Stanislaviv gymnasium

In 1905 Austrian government agreed to open Ukrainian gymnasium in Stanisławów on demand of Ukrainian community. First, the premises for gymnasium were leased in Jan III Sobieski Street,26. Then, since 1908, it was situated in Lypova Street. The first and a longstanding principal was Mykola Sabat (1867–1930). He had worked in a position of a principal from 1905 to 1919 and from 1923 to 1927. One of the streets in the city is named after him. Stanislaviv Ukrainian gymnasium was abolished by the Soviet power in 1939 and was reorganized into secondary school.

Restored Gymnasium

In 1992 Ukrainian Gymnasium №1 was founded in Ivano-Frankivsk. It is regarded to be the successor of Stanislaviv Gymnasium. Zynovii Berehovskyi became the first principal.

On 22 February 1994, the educational establishment received new premises at the address Kaluska Shose,1.

In 2012 the gymnasium took the second place in the educational establishments ratings of “Fokus” magazine.

On 6 March 2013, the bust of Taras Shevchenko was installed in the gymnasium.^[2]

Type of studying

There are two fields of study: the humanities and the physics and mathematics.

The chairs of Ukrainian language and literature, mathematics and informatics; Methodists associations of social sciences, foreign languages, natural sciences, aesthetic and physical education subjects, class teachers work at gymnasium.

The students of the gymnasium learn English, French, German and Latin. There is a swimming pool here, and every form has three PE lessons, one of which is swimming. Dancing lessons are compulsory.

The library stock is 26103 books.
