She was born Una Golding in London and studied art in England. She married Roy Abrahamson before World War II and came to Canada in 1946. Abrahamson apprenticed as a painter with Henri Masson. She later worked as an economist and as domestic historian for the test kitchens at Chatelaine magazine. She was also a publicist for the kitchens of General Foods and later as director of Consumer Affairs for the Dominion chain of supermarkets. In 1975, Abrahamson was chair of the Ontario Council of Health's task force on dietetics and nutrition. In October 1976, she was hit by a car in Toronto. After staying in a coma for over a year and going through a subsequent long recovery period, she regained the ability to speak and write.[1] She was the author of God Bless Our Home: Domestic Life in Nineteenth Century Canada (1966), The Canadian Guide to Home Entertaining (1974) and Crafts Canada (1975).[1] She died in Toronto at the age of 76.[1] The large collection of cookbooks that she accumulated over her life were donated to the University of Guelph as the Una Abrahamson Canadian Cookery Collection.[2] References1. ^{{cite web |url=https://app.pch.gc.ca/application/aac-aic/artiste_detailler_av-artist_detail_adv.app?rID=18&fID=2&lang=en&qlang=en&pID=2&sf1=BP&con1=AND&sf2=DP&con2=AND&mcon=AND&msf=ARRF&dsf=BDATE&dcp=EQUALS&flcon=AND&flcp1=GREATER_OR_EQUAL&flcp2=LESS_OR_EQUAL&dcon=AND&scon=AND&acon=AND&ccon=AND&tcon=AND&fcon=AND&ncp=EQUALS&sort=AM_ASC&ps=50 |title=Artist/Maker name "Abrahamson, Una" |work=Artists in Canada}} {{Authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Abrahamson, Una Stella}}2. ^1 2 {{cite web |url=http://www.lib.uoguelph.ca/find/find-type-resource/archival-special-collections/culinary/una-abrahamson-collection |title=Una Abrahamson Collection |publisher=University of Guelph Library}} 10 : 1922 births|1999 deaths|Artists from London|Artists from Toronto|English emigrants to Canada|Canadian food writers|Canadian women painters|Canadian women non-fiction writers|Writers from Toronto|20th-century women artists |
