U.S. Kids Golf[1], or USKG, is the leading youth golf organization in the world. Founded by Dan Van Horn in 1996, the company has a for-profit equipment and products company (LLC) and a non-profit public charity (Foundation), both operating in tandem in over 50 countries. EQUIPMENT [2] – U.S. Kids Golf, LLCThe U.S. Kids Golf clubs have revolutionized kids golf equipment and is the top seller throughout the world. Starting with a fitting system based on the young players height and not their age, three systems of equipment is available. Beginner at home – Yard Club[3], Beginner to intermediate – Ultralight[4], and Intermediate to Advanced – Tour Series[5]. TOURNAMENTS [6] – U.S. Kids Golf Foundation (501 c 3 public charity)Starting with its first World Championship held in the year 2000, in 2019 over 1600 tournaments will be organized in 60 different markets throughout the U.S. and 25 additional markets worldwide. The 2012 is subject of the NETFLIX’s first full-length original documentary entitled, “The Short Game”[7], as it depicted the lives of eight young golfers traveling to the yearly world championship in Pinehurst, North Carolina. COACHES INSTITUTE [8] – U.S. Kids Golf Foundation (501 c 3 public charity)Yearly, the Coaches Institute provides best practices training to over 500 golf professionals on how to work more effectively with youth through its Certified Coach program. Additionally, since 2004, the Institute has honored the world’s Top 50 Kids Golf Coaches at the yearly PGA Merchandise Show. Over 130 Master Kids Golf Coaches, the very pinnacle award for excellence in coaching youth, are now recognized and able to be found on the companies’ website. LONGLEAF GOLF & FAMILY CLUB [9]– U.S. Kids Golf Foundation (501 c 3 public charity)In 2015, the Foundation purchased Longleaf Golf and Country Club, Southern Pines, NC with the vision of creating a “living laboratory” for youth and family golf development. The first initiative launched was the Longleaf Tee System[10], which scales the golf course with 7 sets of tees on each hole based on the players skill. The system goes further by having no gender association with any tee locations like men, women, seniors or kids, but all having course rating for both male and female players allowing even the youngest of players to begin developing a handicap. The second initiative was the launching of the National U.S. Kids Golf Academy[11]. Today, over 500 students are active in the Academy which is providing inspiration and direction to the development of many more U.S. Kids Golf Academies around the world.
