Ahadas along with his siblings musicians were taught how to play Yakan traditional instruments as children. He first learned how to play the gabbang, a wooden bamboo instrument similar to the xylophone then learned how to play the agung[3] an instrument traditionally played by Yakan men.[1] By age 20, Ahadas had already mastered the kwintangan which is considered as the most important Yakan musical instrument despite the instrument traditionally reserved for women.[1] He can also play the tuntungan.[4] He taught his children how to play Yakan traditional instruments, including Darna who would later become a teacher of these traditions herself. Ahadas went on to promote these traditions outside his native town of Lamitan, Basilan.[3] Ahadas was recognized as a National Living Treasure by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts in the year 2000.[5] References1. ^1 2 {{cite news|last1=Babiera|first1=Lester|title=Lamitan in Basilan holds festival to celebrate cultural harmony|url=http://lifestyle.inquirer.net/56724/lamitan-in-basilan-holds-festival-to-celebrate-cultural-harmony/|accessdate=29 November 2017|work=Philippine Daily Inquirer|date=9 July 2012}} {{National Living Treasures of the Philippines}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Ahadas, Uwang}}2. ^{{cite web|title=Official Calendar|url=http://www.officialgazette.gov.ph/calendar/|website=Official Gazette of the Republic of the Philippines|accessdate=6 November 2017}} 3. ^1 {{cite web|last1=de la Paz|first1=Salve|title=National Living Treasures: Uwang Ahadas|url=http://ncca.gov.ph/about-culture-and-arts/culture-profile/gamaba/national-living-treasures-uwang-ahadas/|publisher=National Commission for Culture and the Arts|accessdate=29 November 2017|date=5 May 2015}} 4. ^{{cite web|title=Uwang Ahadas, National Living Treasure for Traditional Music|url=http://www.ichcap.org/eng/contents/multimedia.php?mode=view&code=M0000344&no=2742&s_wr_subject=&s_wr_content=&stx=&page=2&searchNation=&tab=2|website=ICHAP|publisher=International Information and Networking Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region|accessdate=29 November 2017}} 5. ^{{cite news|last1=Maranan|first1=Ed|title=Songs and music from the heartland|url=http://www.philstar.com:8080/arts-and-culture/661112/songs-and-music-heartland|accessdate=29 November 2017|work=The Philippine Star|date=28 February 2011}} 10 : 1945 births|Living people|National Living Treasures of the Philippines|Filipino musicians|20th-century Filipino musicians|21st-century Filipino musicians|People from Basilan|Filipino multi-instrumentalists|Filipino folk musicians|Filipino Muslims |
