Her recovery was not fast and she was not able to play handball for one year. After the recovery Agović was under great pressure because she was expected to play for national team and many have doubted that she is ever going to be as good as she used to be. But with determination and hard work Vanesa caught up, proved many people wrong and returned the old glory. Early lifeAgović started playing handball when she was 10 years old. At first she saw it as recreation but when her mother took the role of the coach she started to understand that with hard work and her talent she can do great things in this sport. Through the whole process of becoming professional athlete her mother was a great help and support for her she was the one who persuaded young Agović to start playing handball. Since her mother used to be professional handball player this sport was not unknown to Vanesa but at first she didn't show much interest in it, but occasionally she would come to her mothers practices and watch her play. On their training sessions they would often do trick shots which are hard to pull off. Being competitive as she is she was challenged to try them as well, with little to no effort she managed to do them. Seeing this her mother was impressed and decided to introduce her in to the world of handball. At the beginning of her career she started playing left wing because it was the position her mother was playing, but soon she came to understand that left back and center back was more suitable for her.
