It is found mainly near Sydney, but also near the NSW and Queensland border, and in Queensland.[3][4] A map of its occurrence records is given here. It grows in damp situations in heath on sandy soils.[3]The cordate base to the adaxial sepal is a feature distinguishing it from many other Velleias.[6] A full description of the plant is given in Flora of Australia online. The species was first described as Velleia lyrata by the botanist Robert Brown in 1810 [1][ and the name has never been revised.][.] References 1. ^1 2 {{Cite web|url=http://plantnet.rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/NSWfl.pl?page=nswfl&lvl=sp&name=Velleia~lyrata|title=Velleia lyrata R.Br.|last=|first=|date=|website=PlantNET – FloraOnline|publisher=National Herbarium of NSW|archive-url=|archive-date=|dead-url=|access-date=2018-04-01}} 2. ^1 {{Cite web|url=http://avh.ala.org.au/occurrences/search?taxa=Velleia+lyrata#tab_mapView|title=Velleria lyrata Occurrence records|last=|first=|date=|website=The Australasian Virtual Herbarium|publisher=Council of Heads of Australasian Herbaria|language=en-AU|archive-url=|archive-date=|dead-url=|access-date=2018-04-01}} 3. ^1 2 Brown, R.
