S. A. Sami.[2] The film featured K. R. Ramaswamy and T. R. Rajakumari in the lead roles.[1] PlotThis is the story of a young man who works to bring changes in the society destroying corruption and superstitious beliefs. The story is set in a kingdom that had a wily minister. The princess falls in love with the young man, but the minister has ideas to marry the princess to his son. The young man and his sister are tormented by the minister.[3] CastList adapted from The Hindu article.[3] {{div col}}
Crew
ProductionThis is a historical film, but almost like a folklore film, produced by M. Somasundaram under the banner Jupiter Pictures. After the success of Velaikkaari, the producer encouraged A. S. A. Sami to bring out another film with a similar theme. Sami created the character of a young man with revolutionary ideas and the same hero K. R. Ramaswamy was featured in the role. SoundtrackMusic was composed by C. R. Subburaman, while the lyrics were penned by Udumalai Narayana Kavi.[1] The film had 14 songs, some of them of Western style. The dance song Laalu Laalu written by K. D. Santhanam and rendered by Vyjayanthimala became popular.[3] ReceptionIn spite of the reformist theme, the film did not do well because of its complicated story. Film historian Randor Guy wrote in 2009 that the film is remembered for "the western-style dances by Vyjayanthimala and Lalitha-Padmini, catchy western tunes and good production values."[3] References1. ^1 2 {{cite book|url=http://www.lakshmansruthi.com/cineprofiles/1950-cinedetails11.asp|title=Sadhanaigal Padaitha Thamizh Thiraipada Varalaru|trans-title=History of Landmark Tamil Films|publisher=Sivakami Publishers|author=Film News Anandan|authorlink=Film News Anandan|date= 23 October 2004|location=Chennai|language=Tamil|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20170328014123/http://www.lakshmansruthi.com/cineprofiles/1950-cinedetails11.asp|archivedate=28 March 2017}} 2. ^{{cite book|authors=Ashish Rajadhyaksha & Paul Willemen|title=Encyclopedia of Indian Cinema|publisher=Oxford University Press, New Delhi, 1998|page=654 |url=https://chasingcinema.files.wordpress.com/2015/09/text.pdf}} 3. ^1 2 3 {{cite web | url=http://www.thehindu.com/features/cinema/Blast-from-the-past-Vijayakumari-1950/article16890418.ece | title=Blast from the past: Vijayakumari (1950) | work=The Hindu | date=5 November 2009 | accessdate=28 March 2017|last=Guy|first=Randor|authorlink=Randor Guy | archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20170328022057/http://www.thehindu.com/features/cinema/Blast-from-the-past-Vijayakumari-1950/article16890418.ece| archivedate=28 March 2017}} External links{{IMDb title|0270048}} 2 : Indian films|Indian historical films |
