The franchise model is aimed at conversion for existing properties and new properties, with an aim for 200 locations by 2028.[2] The first locations include the rebranding of 12 hotels from Covivio and the 388-room Watermark Hotel in Australia.[3] The name Voco is based on the Latin word meaning ‘to invite’ or to ‘come together’.[4] In 2018 IHG leased a number of hotels originally owned by Principal Hotel Company and purchased by Foncière des Régions,[5] with Voco St David's Cardiff Hotel selected to be the first Voco hotel in Europe with 142 guest rooms.
