George Graff, Jr. wrote the lyrics, and Jack Glogau composed the music.[1] The song was published by Leo Feist, Inc. in New York City.[2] The character of Uncle Sam, whose image was used to recruit soldiers for war, is featured on the cover of the sheet music. Uncle Sam puts a ship into the sea, as soldiers march in the background.[3] Above the title of the song, it reads, "This is the song that inspired all America!"[4] References1. ^{{cite book |last=Vogel |first=Frederick G. |date=1995 |title=World War I Songs: A History and Dictionary of Popular American Patriotic Tunes, with Over 300 Complete Lyrics |location=Jefferson |publisher=McFarland & Company, Inc. |page=257 |isbn=0-89950-952-5}} 2. ^{{cite web |url=https://www.loc.gov/jukebox/recordings/detail/id/4368/ |title=Wake up, America |author= |website=Library of Congress |access-date=3 December 2015}} 3. ^{{cite book |last=Parker |first=Bernard S. |date=2007 |volume=2 |title=World War I Sheet Music |location=Jefferson |publisher=McFarland & Company, Inc. |page=747 |isbn=0-7864-2799-X}} 4. ^{{cite web |url=http://apps.carleton.edu/events/wwi/exhibition/songs/?image_id=446038 |title=Songs of the Great War |author= |date=1 October 2008 |website=Carleton College |access-date=3 December 2015}} 3 : 1916 songs|Songs of World War I|Songs with lyrics by George Graff Jr. |
