It is also known as Wallsend Locomotive Shed. The property is owned by Newcastle City Council. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.[1] HistoryThe goods shed was built in 1877 on the Wallsend railway line, replacing an earlier timber building built nearby {{circa}} 1868.[2] The plans indicated a shed 80 feet long by 20 feed wide with two double doors at the back for the purpose of unloading goods. A new Wallsend railway station was built at the same time, replacing an earlier station.[3] In later years it served a number of purposes, including as a car sales yard and as the Wallsend Enterprise Centre.[2][4] It was threatened with demolition for roadworks in 1989, but was preserved due to an Interim Heritage Order in December 1989.[2] In 2018, the former goods shed serves as the office of the Totally & Permanently Incapacitated Veterans' Association of New South Wales.[5] Heritage listingThe Wallsend Railway Goods Shed is the only remaining structure of the Newcastle Wallsend Coalmining Railway (closed in 1939) and one of the few remaining railway goods brick sheds in New South Wales.[1] Wallsend Railway Goods Shed was listed on the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.[1] See also{{Portal|New South Wales}}References1. ^1 2 {{cite NSW SHR|5044980|Railway Goods Shed|hr=00739|fn=S90/06124 & HC 32434|accessdate=2 June 2018}} 2. ^1 2 {{cite web | url=https://www.nswrail.net/locations/gphoto.php?name=NSW:Wallsend:3?iframe=true&width=800&height=600 | title=Wallsend | publisher=nswrail.net | accessdate=7 July 2018}} 3. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article136856540 |title=WALLSEND. |newspaper=Newcastle Morning Herald And Miners' Advocate |volume=IV, |issue=661 |location=New South Wales, Australia |date=4 November 1876 |accessdate=7 July 2018 |page=4 |via=National Library of Australia}} 4. ^{{cite web | url=http://livinghistories.newcastle.edu.au/nodes/view/42835 | title=[Railway Workshop] from Metcalfe Street Corner, Wallsend, NSW, Australia | publisher=Living Histories @ UON | accessdate=7 July 2018}} 5. ^{{cite web | url=https://www.wallsendtown.com.au/business-directory/tpi-association/ | title=TPI Association | publisher=Wallsend Town | accessdate=7 July 2018}} Attribution{{NSW-SHR-CC|name=Railway Goods Shed|dno=5044980|id=00739|year=2018|accessdate=2 June 2018}}External links{{commons category-inline|Wallsend Railway Goods Shed}} 4 : New South Wales State Heritage Register|Rail infrastructure in New South Wales|Wallsend, New South Wales|Articles incorporating text from the New South Wales State Heritage Register |
