WSC was the home of Snipe Fleet #93. In 1985, the club changed name and location, moving to El Dorado Lake and adopting the actual name.[2] WVSC is also the home of the Catalina 22 fleet #116. It is an active fleet that has members participating in area and national regattas. The club has an active membership with club racing and several 'Learn to Sail' programs and clinics during the summer months. SailorsTed Wells won the 1947 and 1949 Snipe Worlds, the 1952 Western Hemispheres and three National Championships (1947, 1949, and 1952). He was Snipe Class International Racing Association (SCIRA) Commodore in 1954, and published “Scientific Sailboat Racing” His boat "Good News III" (Sail number 6025) is stored at Mystic Seaport.[3] Ed Webb was the 1986 Catalina 22 National Champion and a long time member of the Catalina 22 National Sailing Association. He was a participant in multiple national regattas. In the 1995 Catalina 22 National Championship Ed Webb and Gary Pierce placed 5th respectively.
