The William L and Emma Hawkins House is a 20th Century mansion located in Midlothian, Texas.[1][2] The building became a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1994. HistoryWilliam Larkin Hawkins, the son of area pioneer settlers Marcellus Torbert Hawkins (1824-1896) and Amanda Newton (1832-1914) purchased the land with his wife Emma (Barker) in 1892.[3] The land already contained an earlier structure which was removed. In 1901 local wood artisan Will Price was hired to build the new home, he used imported Cypress timber.[4] The house, which features an asymmetrical Queen Anne design was completed in 1903.[5] In 1905, prominent businessman Tom Dees and his wife wife Mattie (Hawkins) purchased the home. In 1913 the property was purchased by Edward and Mollie Byrd. It remained with the Byrd family until 1957.[6] References1. ^{{Cite web|url=https://atlas.thc.state.tx.us/Details/5139007113|title=Details - William L. and Emma Hawkins House - Atlas Number 5139007113 - Atlas: Texas Historical Commission|website=atlas.thc.state.tx.us|access-date=2019-01-15}} {{coord|32.48255|-97.00125|format=dms|type:landmark_region:US-TX|display=title}}2. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www.midlothian.tx.us/PhotoGallery/Album/33|title=Midlothian - Photo Gallery|website=www.midlothian.tx.us|access-date=2019-01-15}} 3. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www.stoppingpoints.com/texas/sights.cgi?marker=William+L.+and+Emma+Hawkins+House&cnty=ellis|title=William L. and Emma Hawkins House|last=Edward|last2=L|first2=Mollie Byrd It remained in the Byrd family until 1957 This page last updated: 7/15/2008 William|website=Stopping Points Historical Markers & Points of Interest|access-date=2019-01-15|last3=Map|first3=Emma Hawkins House Historical Marker Location|last4=Midlothian|last5=Texas}} 4. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WMXREX_William_L_Emma_Hawkins_House_Midlothian_TX|title=William L. & Emma Hawkins House -- Midlothian TX - Victorian Style Architecture on Waymarking.com|website=www.waymarking.com|access-date=2019-01-15}} 5. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www.texasescapes.com/CentralTexasTownsNorth/MidlothianTexas/William-n-Emma-Hawkins-House-Midlothian-Texas.htm|title=Midlothian, Texas, Historic Midlothian.|website=www.texasescapes.com|access-date=2019-01-15}} 6. ^{{Cite book|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=3EmCeQQsK70C&pg=PA18&lpg=PA18&dq=William+Larkin+Hawkins&source=bl&ots=BMQgNot6_g&sig=Dsktr2fw5Cuec3P2khQ2FRLe3vg&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj127_74vDfAhVOSK0KHcF1BkIQ6AEwCHoECAMQAQ#v=onepage&q=William%20Larkin%20Hawkins&f=false|title=Midlothian|last=Esberger|first=Karen Kay|date=2008|publisher=Arcadia Publishing|isbn=9780738558752|language=en}} 5 : Queen Anne architecture in Texas|20th-century architecture in the United States|Buildings and structures in Ellis County, Texas|Houses completed in 1903|Recorded Texas Historic Landmarks |
