He won a gold medal at the 1974 World Rowing Championships in Lucerne with the men's coxed four, with the rowers Andreas Schulz, Rüdiger Kunze, and twin brothers Ullrich and Walter Dießner.[1] A year later, he came second with the same team at the 1975 World Rowing Championships.[1][2] The coxed four rowers stayed together for the 1976 Summer Olympics, but Groß was replaced as coxswain by Johannes Thomas. That team won Olympic silver at the coxed four event.[3] References1. ^1 {{cite web |title= Wolfgang Gross |url= http://www.worldrowing.com/athletes/athlete/4135/results/ |publisher=International Rowing Federation |accessdate=5 February 2018}} {{World champions – Men's coxed four}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Gross, Wolfgang}}{{Germany-rowing-bio-stub}}2. ^{{cite web |title= (M4+) Men's Coxed Four - Final |url= http://www.worldrowing.com/events/1975-world-championships/mens-coxed-four/final/ |publisher=International Rowing Federation |accessdate=5 February 2018}} 3. ^{{Cite sports-reference | East Germany Rowing at the 1976 Montreal Summer Games | https://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/countries/GDR/summer/1976/ROW/ | 5 February 2018 }} 5 : 1954 births|Living people|German male rowers|World Rowing Championships medalists for East Germany|Coxswains (rowing) |
