WXTJ is now entirely administered and programmed by students, with WTJU's staff providing only studio space and technical support.[1] The station first went live on the Internet in the fall of 2013 under the fictitious callsign WTJX. A planned Part 15 AM transmitter on 1620 kHz while the station raised money for an FM signal was publicized, but never materialized. WXTJ gained its current callsign as a side effect of applying for an LPFM license in 2015. Although the suffixed callsign WTJX-LP is not in use, FCC rules require approval if any station is already using the base callsign – in this case, WTJX-TV of Charlotte Amalie, U.S. Virgin Islands, who expressed their opposition.[1][2] References1. ^1 {{cite web|last1=Mullany|first1=Will|title=Student Radio Station WXTJ To Begin Broadcasting On FM|url=https://news.virginia.edu/content/student-radio-station-wxtj-begin-broadcasting-fm|website=UVA Today|date=30 June 2015}} [3][4][5][6]2. ^{{cite web|last1=Waits|first1=Jennifer|title=College Radio News Round-Up and LPFM Update|url=http://www.radiosurvivor.com/2013/11/29/college-radio-survivor-college-radio-news-round-up-and-lpfm-update/|website=Radio Survivor|date=29 November 2013}} 3. ^1 {{cite web|url=https://www.facebook.com/WXTJRADIO/photos/a.190258851157710.1073741828.184709775045951/451878658329060/?type=1&theater|title=---WXTJ IS BACK ON AIR--- - WXTJ 100.1 FM - Student Radio at UVA|date=September 5, 2015|accessdate=September 7, 2015|work=University of Virginia/Facebook}} 4. ^1 2 {{cite web|url=http://www1.arbitron.com/sip/displaySip.do?surveyID=SU15&band=fm&callLetter=WXTJ|title=Arbitron Station Information Profiles|accessdate=September 7, 2015|work=Nielsen Audio/Nielsen Holdings}} 5. ^1 {{cite web|url=http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/pubacc/prod/call_hist.pl?Facility_id=194838&Callsign=WXTJ|title=Call Sign History|accessdate=September 7, 2015|work=Federal Communications Commission, audio division}} 6. ^1 {{cite web|url=http://transition.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/fmq?call=WXTJ|title=WXTJ-LP Facility Record|accessdate=September 7, 2015|work=Federal Communications Commission, audio division}} }} External links
