}}XING Mobility is a provider of advanced electric vehicle powertrain and battery technology. XING Mobility was founded in 2015 and is headquartered in Taipei, Taiwan.[1]

Background

XING Mobility was founded by the CEO of IPEVO and XRANGE Architects, Royce YC Hong,[2] and former NASA and Tesla engineer, Azizi Tucker.[3] According to the company's website, XING Mobility's mission is to "empower every and any vehicle maker to go electric with simple, affordable and powerful powertrains"[4]. The company’s first electric supercar, Miss R, debuted at the 2017 EV Taiwan exhibition alongside the company's first concept race car, Miss E.[5][6]

Technology

Immersion-Cooled Modular Battery Pack System

XING Mobility released their Immersion-Cooled Modular Battery Pack System in late November 2017[7]. In contrast to liquid cooling or air cooling which are more commonly seen cooling methods in the electric vehicle industry, the company's technology submerges Lithium-ion battery cells directly in 3M Novec Engineered Fluid (a non-conductive coolant used in partnership with the chemical conglomerate 3M)[8] to enable full and direct coolant contact with the battery cells’ surface. This direct contact allows for continuous high-discharge power output, improved battery life, increased stability and a high level predictability due to its improved heat transfer and self-extinguishing properties[9].

According to the company's United States Patent Application filed in March 2016[10], the battery pack's modular format is designed to stack and interlock in a building block format to form battery packs of any size and shape[11]. This resource efficient technology allows vehicle makers across multiple industries to rapidly replace their gasoline engines with electric drivetrains[12], with a particular focus on commercial, industrial and recreational vehicles[13].

Vehicles

Miss E

Miss E is the first prototype electric race car developed by XING Mobility. Miss E was primarily developed as a platform in order to test some of the company’s technologies. Miss E has a 450V motor, which produces 400hp and 430Nm (221 ft.lb.) of torque. The battery pack is rated at 33kW/h. Miss E has a top speeds of 288 to 300km/h (179-186mph) depending on configuration.[14]

Miss R

Miss R is an all-electric supercar which has been designed to be driven both on-road and off-road.[15] [16] Miss R has a 0-100km/h (0-62mph) time of 1.8 seconds, a 0-200km/h (0-124mph) time of 5.1 seconds, and a projected top speed of over 270km/h(168mph).[17][18]

The supercar is considered to be proof of concept for the company's Immersion-Cooled Modular Battery Pack System. The design of the battery system allows each cell to be immersed in 3M Novec Engineered Fluid, which is both non-conductive and fire resistant. The supercar's battery pack, which consists of 98 modules each containing 42 lithium-ion cells, is capable of producing 1 Megawatt of power (the equivalent of 1341 horsepower)[19]. The battery pack is user changeable and has been designed to be changed in less than 5 minutes.[20]

The first full Miss R prototype is scheduled to be completed in late 2018.[20] Production of the completed car will be limited to 20 units, and is expected to cost at least $1 million per unit.[21]

The initial concept car measures 4,000 (L) x 1,800 (W) x 1,300mm (H), while its wheel base is 2,950mm and its mass is 1,500kg.[22]

Miss R was exhibited at the 2017 EV Taiwan trade show, which took place from April 19 to 22, 2017 at Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC)[23]. The supercar has since been displayed at Goldman Sachs' Asia Pacific TechNet Conference held in Hong Kong on May 24, 2018[24] as well as AutoTronics Taipei held at Nangang Exhibition Center from April 11 to 14, 2018[25].
