Plot

"Sakura Motomachi, Tokyo in the 1960s. Shin, a boy who lived happily, despite being poor, loses his mother, his only family member, and falls into deep misfortune. Itsuki, a boy who saves Shin. He also lost his older sister. Those two boys are joined by Tae, a girl who can see Yo-kai, and together with Shin's guardian spirit Sū-san, and new Yo-kai such as Nekomata, they take on a mysterious incident in order to retrieve the souls of their precious family! And what is the shocking truth that awaits them...!? This is a story about the friendship formed between three children and Yo-kai―"

The Story also tells the origin how Lord Enma become the ruler of the Yomakai.

Characters

• Atsumi Tanezaki as {{nihongo|Shin Shimomachi|下町シン|Shimomachi Shin}}, another main character of the Yo-kai Watch from the 60s who is poor. Despite his poverty, he was living happily but until his mother died, who was his only familyand fell into a great despair. Soon later, he met his fellow Yo-kai friend and was joined with two children, planning a way to return the souls of the lost citizens of Japan from the fox Yo-kai who devour souls, Tamamo no Mae.
• Etsuko Kozakura as {{nihongo|Nekomata|猫又|Nekomata}}, a classic black-cat Yo-kai who meet Shin, whom lost his mother and become good friends and later adventures alongside him with a group of children into the Yo-kai World. He has both a Shadowside form and a Godside form. His Godside form is known as {{nihongo|Neko'ou Bastet|猫王バステト|Nekoō Basuteto|}}.
• Ryōhei Kimura as {{nihongo|Itsuki Takashiro|高城イツキ|Takashiro Itsuki}}, a boy who saved Shin and owns the "Yo-kai Watch Elda God". He's one of the Three Children who travels into the Yo-kai World. Like Shin, his older sister was gone and got her soul devoured by Tamamo no Mae.
• Nao Tōyama as {{nihongo|Tae Arihoshi|有星タエ|Arihoshi Tae}}, a girl from the Arihoshi Clan who is likely related to Akinori Arihoshi from the previous movie. She's one of the Three Children who adventures into the Yo-kai World involving Yo-kai. She's the only one can do Sorcery.
• Shun Oguri as {{nihongo|Shien|紫炎|Shien}}. He's one of the candidates of becoming the next great ruler of the Yomakai. He will be the main antagonist of the movie.
• Chiemi Blouson as {{nihongo|Tamamo|タマモ|Tamamo}}, a humanoid fox Yo-kai who devours the souls of the citizens of Japan, including those of Shin's Mother & Itsuki's older sister and works alongside Shien. She's also known as {{nihongo|Tamamo no Mae|玉藻前|Tanamo no Mae}}, her Shadowside form.
• Ryōhei Kimura as {{nihongo|Lord Enma|エンマ大王|Enma Daiō}}. He appeared in several movies debutted in the second 2nd and through the 4th. He is one of the candidates of becoming the next ruler of the Yo-kai World and the son of the Great King Enma, competing with Shien. As teased in a Corocoro Magazine, Enma will have three new forms during the movie, Yasha Enma, Yasha Enma Rasetsu, & Yasha Enma Benibana.
• Takehito Koyasu as {{Nihongo|Zazel|ぬらりひょん|Nurarihyon}}, a servant & apprentice of the current Great King Enma and later to Lord Enma.
• Shintaro Asanuma as {{nihongo|Gnomey|ざしきわらし|Zashiki-Warashi}}. He's based on Gnomey on the Original series, but unlike this Gnomey in this movie, he used to watch other people as a Guardian spirit compared to his original and focuses on pursuing his beauty. Like Nekomata, he has a Godside form based on a Tengu.

Release

The film released on December 14, 2018, and opened at #4 at the Japanese box office. Early pre-orders of the movie tickets allows viewers to obtain an early Nekomata Yo-kai Ark only shown in his lightside form. This ark can be scanned through the Nintendo Switch to obtain the character in the upcoming Yo-kai Watch 4 game.
