Zou inherited the excellent traits of their parents, while he was a child, Zou with peers than children had good conditions of being a good basketballer with bulk and a good body shape. His family immigrated into Zhuhai from Anshan at his childhood, but there was not a professional basketball team in those days. It was Dai Yixin who once commended Yi Jianlian to Shenzhen Sports School, Dai was the president of Shenzhen Sports School at that time.
