She is the Member of Parliament (MP) for the West Tyrone UK Parliament constituency, having won the seat in a by-election on 3 May 2018.[2] She is from Carrickmore, County Tyrone. As an abstentionist, Begley does not take her seat in the House of Commons. She has always had an interest in politics and she graduated with a degree in Law with Politics from Queen's University Belfast. Following this she continued her education at Queen's and studied at the Institute of Professional and Legal Studies graduating as a solicitor. Before being elected she worked in a general solicitor practice in both civil and criminal law. She is a human rights advocate.
