Żakowski {{IPAc-pl|ˌ|ż|a|k|ˈ|o|w|s|k|i}} (with its female form Żakowska {{IPAc-pl|ˌ|ż|a|k|ˈ|o|w|s|k|a}} and plural form Żakowscy {{IPAc-pl|ˌ|ż|a|k|ˈ|o|w|s|c|y}}) is a Polish surname[1] which is most frequent in the cities of Warszawa, Płońsk and Bydgoszcz[2][3] in central Poland and is also to be found as Zakowski among the Polish diaspora.[4][5] It was first recorded in 1391 and is a toponymic derived either from Żakowo or Żakowice, the names of several small Polish villages.[6]
