He was a member of the Dutch House of Representatives for the ChristianUnion (ChristenUnie) between 19 November 2002 and 1 December 2015. From 28 April 2011 until 10 November 2015, he was also both party leader and parliamentary leader of the party, in both cases succeeding André Rouvoet. He focused on matters of the Royal House, security, constitutional rights, infrastructure and fishery. Since 26 oktober 2017, he is Minister for Primary and Secondary Education and Media in the third Rutte cabinet. BiographySlob studied History. He started his political career as a member of the city council of Zwolle from 1993 to 2001. In 2001, Slob became a member of the House of Representatives for the Reformed Political League (GPV) when its leader Gert Schutte retired. After the 2002 elections, the newly formed ChristianUnion lost a seat, and Slob did not return to parliament. When lijsttrekker Kars Veling stepped down as a result of the election loss, Slob took his place. He was put on the second place of the list of ChristianUnion candidates for the 2003 elections, and was re-elected. After the 2006 general elections, Slob and party lijsttrekker André Rouvoet represented the ChristianUnion in the negotiations for the formation of the new Dutch government. Slob was a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Infrastructural Projects. Slob retired from politics on 1 December 2015. He was invested as a Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau on his departure from the House.[1] He was replaced by Eppo Bruins.[2] Slob is director of the Historical Center Overijssel per 1 January 2016.[1] References
