释义 |
Arkansas Repertory Theatre (The Rep) is the state's longest-running nonprofit resident theatre. Along with Northwest Arkansas's TheatreSquared, it is one of only two producing theatres in Arkansas affiliated with Actors' Equity Association and offering a year-round season. Until April 2018, Producing Artistic Director John Miller-Stephany, who succeeded longtime artistic director Robert Hupp in 2016, led a resident staff of designers, technicians and administrators in the creation of six or seven productions annually. A member of the League of Resident Theatres, The Rep had annually produced a diverse body of theatrical work attracting more than 70,000 patrons annually to its 377-seat theatre in downtown Little Rock, and offered performances over 200 nights each year. Since its founding 41 years ago, The Rep had mounted more than 350 productions, including 45 world premieres. The Rep offered culturally diverse programming to reflect its home community: a recent season included major stagings of The Crucible, Cheryl L. West's Jar The Floor and the musical Sister Act. On April 24, 2018, the Arkansas Repertory Theater announced that it was suspending production, citing financial difficulties. A volunteer committee led by longtime board member Ruth Shepherd was formed to strategize a new vision and lead a campaign to settle debt and re-envision the organization, including a campaign to raise $2.33 million.[1] Current Season (2016-17)
