Hazlerigg was the son of Lieutenant-Colonel Arthur Grey Hazlerigg, and Jane Edith Orr-Ewing, daughter of Sir Archibald Orr-Ewing, 1st Baronet. Sir Arthur Hesilrige, 2nd Baronet, was an ancestor. His father died when he was only one year old and in 1890, aged 11, he succeeded his grandfather as thirteenth Baronet, of Noseley Hall. He was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge.[1] He played first-class cricket for Leicestershire from 1907 to 1910, captaining the county during that period. He made 65 appearances for the county.[2] He later served as High Sheriff of Leicestershire in 1909 and as Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire from 1925 to 1949. On 12 February 1945 he was raised to the peerage as Baron Hazlerigg, of Noseley in the County of Leicester,[3] for his services to the county of Leicestershire. Lord Hazlerigg married Dorothy Rachel Buxton, daughter of John Henry Buxton, in 1903. He died in May 1949, aged 70, and was succeeded in his titles by his son Arthur. Lady Hazlerigg died in 1972. He stood for the Conservatives in 1906 but was unsuccessful. {{Election box begin | title=General Election 1906: Melton[4]Electorate 15,815}} {{Election box candidate with party link||party = Liberal Party (UK) |candidate =Henry de Rosenbach Walker |votes = 7,800 |percentage = 56.4 |change = +8.2 }}{{Election box candidate with party link| |party = Conservative Party (UK) |candidate = Arthur Grey Hazlerigg |votes =6,033 |percentage = 43.6 |change = -8.2 }}{{Election box majority| |votes = 1,767 |percentage = 12.8 |change = 16.4 }}{{Election box turnout| |votes = |percentage = 87.5 |change = +7.5 }}{{Election box gain with party link| |winner = Liberal Party (UK) |loser = Conservative Party (UK) |swing = +8.2 }}{{Election box end}} References1. ^{{acad |id=HSLG898AG |name=Hazlerigg, Sir Arthur Grey, Bart.}} {{S-start}}{{s-hon}}{{succession box | title=Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire | before=The Duke of Rutland | years=1925–1949 | after=The Lord Cromwell}}{{s-reg|uk}}{{s-new|creation}}{{s-ttl | title=Baron Hazlerigg | years=1945–1949}}{{s-aft | after=Arthur Grey Hazlerigg}}{{s-reg|en-bt}}{{succession box | title=Baronet2. ^{{cite web |subscription=yes |url=https://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Players/30/30101/30101.html|title=Player profile: Arthur Hazlerigg|publisher=CricketArchive|accessdate=24 January 2013}} 3. ^{{London Gazette |issue=36938 |date=13 February 1945 |page=883}} 4. ^British parliamentary election results, 1885-1918 (Craig) (of Noseley Hall) | years=1890–1949 | before=Arthur Grey Hazlerigg | after=Arthur Grey Hazlerigg}}{{S-end}} References
