Most of its inhabitants are made up of the Malay, Chinese and Iban people. Asajaya has a small town, known as Pekan Asajaya. It is a focal point for the residents nearby. There is a district office - Pejabat Daerah Asajaya, which translates as "Asajaya District Office". There are also three secondary school - SMK Pesantren (only for Muslims), SMK Asajaya, SMK Hajah Laila Taib, SMK Sadong Jaya and SMK Semera. Those who passed their UPSR (Ujian Permeriksaan Sekolah Rendah) exam in Primary Six can choose their own secondary school, meanwhile for those who failed will have to go to SMK Asajaya, as that is the only secondary school with transition classes.
