The holotype had been collected by William Theobald near the Salt Range in Bhera, Pakistan.[2] Its species name "cineraceus" is derived from Latin "cinereus," meaning "ashen." Blyth described parts of its fur as "greyish-white."[2] DescriptionIt is a small species of bat, with individuals weighing {{convert|4-5.5|g|oz|abbr=on}}. Its forearm length is {{convert|36-40.5|mm|in|abbr=on}}. It has a simple nose-leaf with a raised bump on the nasal septum.[3] Biology and ecologyIt roosts in sheltered places such as caves during the day.[3] Range and habitatIts range includes several countries in South and Southeast Asia. It has been documented in India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Thailand, and Vietnam. It has been documented at a range of elevations from {{convert|62-1480|m|ft|abbr=on}} above sea level.[1] ConservationAs of 2008, it is assessed as a least-concern species by the IUCN. It meets the criteria for this classification because it has a wide geographic range; its population is presumably large; its range includes protected areas; and it is not likely experiencing rapid population decline.[1] References1. ^1 2 3 {{cite journal |author1=Csorba, G.|author2=Bumrungsri, S.|author3=Francis, C.|author4=Bates, P.|author5=Gumal, M.|author6=Kingston, T. | title=Hipposideros cineraceus| journal = The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species| volume= 2008|publisher = IUCN | year = 2008 | page = e.T10119A3167688| url = http://www.iucnredlist.org/details/10119/0|doi=10.2305/IUCN.UK.2008.RLTS.T10119A3167688.en| accessdate = 6 August 2016}} Includes range map. {{Hipposideridae}}{{Taxonbar|from=Q287967}}2. ^1 {{cite journal| last1=Blyth| first1=E.| year=1853| title=Report of Curator, Zoological Department| journal=The Journal of the Asiatic Society of Bengal| volume=22| page=410| url=https://biodiversitylibrary.org/page/40267896}} 3. ^1 {{cite book| last1=Phillipps| first1= Q.| last2= Phillipps| first2= K.| year= 2016| title= Phillipps' Field Guide to the Mammals of Borneo and Their Ecology: Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei, and Kalimantan| publisher= Princeton University Press| isbn=0691169411| page=106}} 18 : Hipposideros|Bats of South Asia|Bats of Southeast Asia|Bats of India|Bats of Indonesia|Bats of Malaysia|Mammals of Borneo|Mammals of Myanmar|Mammals of Cambodia|Mammals of Laos|Mammals of Nepal|Mammals of the Philippines|Mammals of Thailand|Mammals of Vietnam|Mammals of Pakistan|Mammals described in 1853|Taxonomy articles created by Polbot|Taxa named by Edward Blyth |
