When the band was first started, Atsuko played drums and provided backup vocals.[1] A former fashion designer, she was also responsible for designing the band's stage outfits.[2] After the departure of Michie Nakatani, Atsuko switched from drummer to bassist. Atsuko eventually retired from the band to marry, and has moved to Los Angeles. However, she still plays with Shonen Knife whenever the band performs in Los Angeles on their North American tours.
