Description
Austrochaperina brevipes is a stocky, relatively broad-headed frog. Males grow to {{convert|24|mm|abbr=on}} and females {{convert|28|mm|abbr=on}} in snout–vent length. Males appear to reach maturity at about {{convert|20|mm|abbr=on}} and females at about {{convert|22|mm|abbr=on}} SVL. The dorsum is reddish brown, brown, or yellowish brown. There is a yellow vertebral line.[5]This species probably breeds through direct development.[1] A male was found attending 14 eggs, whereas a female of {{convert|22.9|mm|abbr=on}} contained ten eggs.[5]
Habitat and conservation
The species' natural habitat is montane rainforest where they live in leaf litter and beneath logs.[1][5] The threats to this poorly known species are unknown; this frog has not been seen since 1987.[1]
