The inhabitants of the commune are known as Autruchiens or Autruchiennes.[1] GeographyAutruche is located some 43 km east by south-east of Rethel and 20 km north-east of Vouziers. Access to the commune is by the D947 from Germont in the south-west which passes through the southern corner of the commune and continues east to Bar-lès-Buzancy. The D12 also comes from Authe in the north-west and joins the D947 in the commune. Access to the village is by a local road branching from the D947 which goes north to the village. The commune is entirely farmland except for some lakes in the south.[2] The Bar river forms the southern border of the commune as it flows west then follows the Canal des Ardennes to eventually join the Meuse at Vrigne-Meuse. The Ruisseau de Saint Pierremont flows from the north of the commune towards the south-west and continues to join the Bar west of the commune. The Ruisseau du Clageot rises in the north of the commune and flows south-west down the centre of the commune and also joins the Bar on the southern border.[2] Neighbouring communes and villages[2]{{Geographic location|width=auto |Centre = Autruche |North = Saint-Pierremont |Northeast = Vaux-en-Dieulet |East = Fossé |Southeast = Harricourt |South = |Southwest = Germont |West = Authe |Northwest = Brieulles-sur-Bar }} Heraldry{{Blazon-arms|img1=Blason ville fr autruche (ardennes).svg |legend1=Arms of Autruche |text=The official status of the blazon remains to be determined.Blazon: Argent, a stalk of grass leaved and stalked in Vert with head of Sable between two pales of Gules, in chief Sable embattled of four and charged with three billets posed in fesse. }} AdministrationList of Successive Mayors[3]
(Not all data is known) DemographyIn 2010 the commune had 63 inhabitants. The evolution of the number of inhabitants is known from the population censuses conducted in the commune since 1793. From the 21st century, a census of communes with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants is held every five years, unlike larger communes that have a sample survey every year.[4] {{clear}}{{Table Population Town}}Sites and monumentsThe Church of Saint-Nicolas (16th century){{Mérimée Icon}} is registered as an historical monument.[5] The church contains two items that are registered as historical objects:

For communes with a population greater than 10,000 inhabitants, a sample survey is conducted annually, the entire territory of these communes is taken into account at the end of the period of five years. The first "legal population" after 1999 under this new law came into force on 1 January 2009 and was based on the census of 2006. 5. ^Ministry of Culture, Mérimée {{Mérimée|PA00078337|PA00078337 Church of Saint-Nicolas}} {{Fr icon}}{{Camera}} 6. ^Ministry of Culture, Palissy {{Palissy|PM08000038|PM08000038 6 Statuettes}} {{Fr icon}}{{Camera}} 7. ^Ministry of Culture, Palissy {{Palissy|PM08000037|PM08000037 Sculpture: Triumphant Virgin}} {{Fr icon}}{{Camera}} References 1 : Communes of Ardennes (department) |
