Dr. Ava Cadell (born June 15, 1956) is a former actress, writer, producer and currently a therapist and speaker on issues of sexuality.[1]

Career

Dr. Ava Cadell obtained a doctorate in human behavior from Newport University (California) and later a doctorate of education in human sexuality from the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality in San Francisco. She then embarked upon teaching, writing and lecturing, based out of Los Angeles. Through her private practice, Cadell counsels individuals and couples on personal issues including infidelity, orgasm barriers, performance problems, sexual compulsion, parental concerns, power struggles,[2] anger management, fear of intimacy, lack of communication and lack of desire.[3]

Dr. Cadell was voted "Sexpert of the Year" by the Sexual Health Expo in 2015, and has authored eleven books covering various aspects of relationships and sex. Neuroloveology: The Power to Mindful Love & Sex (2015) is about using brain science to improve your love life, Idiot's Guides: Kama Sutra (2015) is an illustrated guide to making love with the ancient sexual practice of Kama Sutra, The Sexy Little Book of Sex Games (Alpha Penguin 2012), The Sexy Little Book of Oral Pleasure (Alpha Penguin 2011), Idiot's Guide to Oral Sex (2004), Dr. Ava's Tantra Workbook (2005), The Stock Market Orgasm (1999), Love Around the House (1999), 12 Steps to Everlasting Love (2002), Confessions to a Sexologist (1999). Her first book, co-authored with Jane Hamilton, was Hot Spots: An Exciting Adults Only Guide & Datebook (1994), a guide to the sexiest places in North America.

Cadell has traveled to Africa, Asia, India, Australia, Europe and North America giving seminars, many of which are based on her books. She has given seminars to the Young President's Organization domestic and international, the Entrepreneur's Organization, The University of Southern California, Amgen & Wyeth Pharmaceutical, Anthony Robbins Companies, Bayer Pharmaceutical, Stephen S. Wise Temple, Neurosurgical Institute, National Psoriasis Foundation and Dr. Eros in China.

In her capacity as a sexologist, she has appeared on numerous national television shows, including The Doctors, Good Morning America, Extra, Montel Williams, Geraldo and The X Show, as well as in documentaries and news reports on major broadcast networks and cable programming outlets, including CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, Fox, MTV, VH1, The Discovery Channel, Lifetime and A&E, E! True Hollywood Story. She also appeared on reality TV shows as herself giving advice on Gene Simmons Family Jewels, Kendra on Top, Family Plots and HBO's The Series and on the radio shows The Howard Stern Show, The Mark & Brian Show, Competitively Incorrect with Jim Lampley, The Leeza Gibbons Show, The Lisa Fox Show, The Jerry Doyle Show, the Matt Alan Show, The Phil Henry Show, The Maria Sanchez Show, The Mark & Kim Show, and on radio stations KFI, KIIS FM, Sirius, KROQ. Cadell also hosted her own radio show called Sex Drive, co-hosted with daytime drama actress Jackie Zeman.

As an expert in the field of love, relationships and sex, Cadell has contributed to magazines and news outlets The Huffington Post, The New York Times, Marie Claire, Men's Health, Women's Health Magazine, Cosmopolitan, Redbook, Woman's Day, Fitness, Shape, Self Magazine, People Magazine, Sports Illustrated and the Los Angeles Times. She has been a featured columnist writer for Tongue Magazine, Penthouse Magazine, The Wave, The Tolucan Times and The Beverly Hills Times.

As an extension of her presence in the field of sexual health and wellbeing, Cadell has founded Loveology University—the "on-line university of love coaching"—through which she imparts her knowledge to motivated students who will follow her career path to become "Loveologists."

Cadell, a certified sex counselor, has professional affiliations with the American Association of Sexuality Educators Counselors and Therapists (AASECT), the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality (SSSS) and the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS), as an accredited continuing educator.

Cadell wrote and hosted adult instructional videos for Penthouse's Sex Academy (Erotic Massage for Couples, Foreplay, Swinging, Fantasy & Role-Play, Sexual Positions) and Zero Tolerance Entertainment (Dr. Ava's Guide to Prostate Pleasure, Dr. Ava's How to Please a Woman, Dr. Ava's Guide to Sensual BDSM for Couples, Dr. Ava's Guide to Anal Sex for Women, Dr. Ava's Guide to Oral Sex for Couples).

In 2003, she invented an adult toy for women called the Trigasm and manufactured it with adult company Doc Johnson who also distributed her Ava's Hot Lips CD series Volume I and II. In 2005 she created an adult board game called Dr. Ava Cadell's Tantric Lovers Game with Kama Sutra Games. She recorded and produced the spoken word CD Between the Sheets (1997), and the music album Soundz of Sex which was released by Tuxedo Music Ltd. in 1995.

In the 1990s, Cadell appeared in four Malibu Bay Films releases, directed by Andy Sidaris and produced by Arlene Sidaris: Fit to Kill, Do or Die, Hard Hunted and Return to Savage Beach. By the end of the 1990s, Cadell graduated as a clinical sexologist from the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality, and began to appear on radio and television as an expert in love, sex and relationships. During the 1990s she began her speaking career at The Learning Annex teaching classes on all aspects of human sexuality. She was featured in Playgirl Magazine, Cosmopolitan Magazine, Stuff Magazine and More Magazine, The National Examiner, The National Enquirer, The Malibu Times and Beverly Hills Magazine during this time.

In the 1980s, Cadell hosted Pillow Previews on Playboy Channel, a show where she interviewed adult stars and reviewed their movies. Mel Brooks’ Part I (1981),[1] Smokey and the Bandit Part III (1983), Jungle Warriors (1984),[1] the Arnold Schwarzenegger action flick Commando (1985), four of Andy Sidaris’s action movies, and also episodes of Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer (1984), Arthur Hailey's Hotel (1984), Dallas (1984) and The Love Boat (1985) and Perfect Strangers (1986). She acted in the theatrical productions Cabaret Dada, written by Buddy Ebsen and performed at the Masquers Theater in Hollywood, California, and Hooters, written by Ted Talley and performed at the Old Globe Theater in San Diego. During this time, Cadell began Shotokan karate training at the Beverly Hills Karate Academy where she earned a black belt, and was later featured in Inside Karate magazine. In 1986, she appeared in Celebrity Sleuth Magazine, Playboy Magazine in the Grapevine section, and did a centerfold for Femme Fatales Magazine.

In the 1970s while living in London, Cadell was a model, a "page 3 girl", and the face of Miner's Make-up with whom she had a modeling contract. Cadell made a number of British television appearances in the 1970s such as Spooner's Patch, The Les Dawson Show and Steptoe & Son. She also appeared in the July 1975 (Volume 10 no 7) issue of men's magazine Mayfair and other men's magazines including Men Only and Knave. Her film credits from this time include The Ups and Downs of a Handyman (1975), The Golden Lady (1979), Spaced Out (1979),[4] She worked at the Playboy club as a cocktail bunny, and was chosen to be a centerfold model for Oui Magazine in 1975, photographed by Jeff Dunas.

Personal life

Cadell was born in Budapest, Hungary during the Hungarian Revolution and was smuggled out of the country by strangers to Vienna Austria where she was left at an orphanage. Her father claimed her a few years later and took her to England.[5] She never knew her mother. She attended school in Finchley, England. She married her first husband Andrew Martyn-Smith in the late 1970s and together they became part owners in the London restaurant Du Rollo in Soho. In 1979, they moved to the United States and opened a wine bar called Noses in the Coral Gables area of Miami, Florida. They moved to Los Angeles in the early 1980s and were amicably divorced a few years later. In 1992, Ava Cadell married Los Angeles criminal defense attorney Peter L. Knecht who died on October 3, 2014.

Upon moving to the United States, Cadell volunteered her services at several children's charities including MacLaren Children's Center & Resource Institution for Abused Children, Childhood Leukemia Foundation, International Toy Bank and Ahead with Horses, where she is currently on the board of directors.
