Bahalda was the capital of Mayurbhanj in the 14th century. Maa Kichakeswari Temple, one of the most famous in northern Odisha, is situated in the middle of the town. It is situated 57 km away from Jamshedpur and 97 km away from Baripada, the district headquarters. PeopleThe majority of the population in the area are tribals, predominantly Ho and Santals. The town has a small market place and weekly haat for need of the people around. It is one of the gateways to the Jharkhand State.
