The upazila consists of 1 municipality, 7 union parishads, 25 mouzas and 196 villages. In Bakshigonj have some Haat Bazer. Bakshigonj (Town) The area of the Bakshigonj town is 20.86 km². It has a population of 65,568; male 50.97%, female 49.03%; population density is 2820 per km². Literacy rate among the town people is 39.9%. EtymologyBakshiganj name of an ancient and historic towns. Prof. Momtaz Uddin Nadir, Mr Hamidur Rahman, Adv Nazrul Islam & Mr Abdur Rouf Talukder supported to Mr M.A Sattar. Late Shamsul Haque Siddique, B.A.B.L was the founder of Bakshiganj N.M. High School in 1935 also he was a land lord of Bakshiganj thana. Kimot ullah Talukder's family was the founder of first college in bakshigong. Kiamotullah college. During the war of liberation the Pakistan army established a military camp at Kamalpur, in the northern sector. From the point of view of war strategy this camp was so important that its fall meant to lose control over the whole Jamalpur-Dhaka region. The freedom fighters attacked Kamalpur many times. On 31 July 1971 the freedom fighters attacked Kamalpur under the command of Major Moinul Hussain Chowdhury, Battalion Commanding Officer of the 1st East Bengal Regiment of Sector 11. This time final victory was not achieved but the casualties in the Pakistan army were huge. In this battle 35 freedom fighters including Captain Salahuddin Momtaz, Ahaduzzaman and Abul Kalam Azad were killed. On 14 November 1971 Abu Taher lost one of his legs in an explosion. GeographyBakshigonj is located at 25.2250°N 89.8750°E . It has 32007 units of household and total area 204.3 km². DemographicsAs of the 2011 Bangladesh census, Baksiganj has a population of 180503. Males constitute 50.8% of the population, and females 49.2%. This Upazila's eighteen up population is 76635.
