Established in February 2000[2] under the name Barista, it was taken over by Lavazza in 2007[3] and sold to Carnation Hospitality Pvt. Ltd. (a subsidiary of Rollatainers, part of the Amtek Group) in 2014.[4] History{{Update|section|date=June 2018}}Headquartered in New Delhi,[5] Barista currently has espresso bars across India,[1] Sri Lanka,[1] Nepal[6] and Maldives[1] It was established in February 2000 by the Barista Coffee Company Limited. A 34.3% equity stake was sold to Tata Coffee in 2001[7] and C Sivasankaran bought the remaining 65 per cent in Barista from the Amit Judge-controlled Turner Morrison in 2004, and his Sterling Group also bought out Tata Coffee's stake later. In 2007, the Sterling Group sold Barista to Lavazza.[8][9] The coffee is supplied by the Indian roaster Fresh and Honest, headquartered in Chennai, which is also owned by Lavazza.{{citation needed|date=April 2012}}{{when|date=June 2018}} {{As of|2009}}, the chain has 200 stores in India, with an estimated annual revenue of {{INR}}2 billion.[10]In 2014, Lavazza sold the coffee shop chain to Carnation Hospitality Pvt.
