The Philippines have won 17 of the 19 men's events since the sport was played except in 1979 and 1989 when Malaysia won.[1] The Malaysians, meanwhile, won 14 of the 18 women's events, including the most recent one in 2017.[2] Starting in 2019, the 3x3 version of the game will be played, in addition to the usual 5-on-5 full strength teams.
