Prior to the Olympics, she was part of the first collegiate women's gymnastics team in the United States at Kent State University in 1959 while still a student at Kent State High School.[2] She also won four medals at the 1959 Pan American Games.[1] Following the Olympics, she returned to college, graduating cum laude from Kent State in 1964,[3] and later earned a Ph.D. in Child Development from the University of Maryland.
