It belongs to the genus Bidens, collectively called koko{{okina}}olau or ko{{okina}}oko{{okina}}olau in the Hawaiian language. It is found only on Moloka{{okina}}i in the Hawaiian Islands.[2][3] It inhabits low shrublands and rocky shores.
