It is endemic to Missouri in the United States, where it occurs in the rivers of the Ozarks.[1] This fish was an endangered species on the IUCN Red List in 1996. In a 2003 reevaluation it was downlisted to vulnerable status when the populations were determined to be mostly stable overall.[1] The fish lives in small to medium-sized rivers with abundant floating and riverbank vegetation which it uses for cover. It prefers calm waters with little current.[1] References1. ^1 2 {{Cite journal | author = NatureServe | title = Percina cymatotaenia | journal = The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species | volume = 2013 | page = e.T16588A19034397 | publisher = IUCN | date = 2013 | url = http://www.iucnredlist.org/details/16588/0 | doi = 10.2305/IUCN.UK.2013-1.RLTS.T16588A19034397.en | access-date = 20 December 2017}} External links
