It is found from Saint Lucia, northward to the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forest and subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest. This bird is a ground-dwelling dove that usually forages among the leaves in forests and lowland woodlands.[2] It is shy and secretive.[2] Nicknames for the bird include wood dove and wood hen.[2] A few years ago, this population was common.[3] Currently, the populations of the Quail-Dove seem to be endangered.
