It is situated on the north bank of the River Waveney, which forms the border with Suffolk, some 2 km north of the town of Bungay and 20 km south-east of the city of Norwich.[1] The civil parish has an area of 5.91 km2 and in the 2001 census had a population of 475 in 190 households,[2] reducing to 458 at the 2011 census.[3] For the purposes of local government, the parish falls within the district of South Norfolk.[4] Notable residentsThomas ManningThomas Manning was a resident of Broome; he was the first white man to visit the Dalai Lama and also meet Napoleon, during his capture on the island of Saint Helena. Joe LewisThe Peterborough goalkeeper Joe Lewis is a former resident of Broome. Lewis currently has three under-21 international caps and was called up to the senior England squad in August 2008, although he remained as an unused substitute and is yet to be recalled.
