Williams became Deputy Commandant of the Joint Services Command and Staff College in 2008, before being promoted to rear admiral and taking up the appointment as Chief of Staff to NATO's Allied Maritime Command Naples in 2009.[1] He went on to be Deputy Director General and Chief of Staff of the European Union Military Staff in Brussels in 2011.[1] He retired from the Navy in 2015.[4]
