Delgado, who moved to the US with her parents from Cuba when she was a year old,[5] had been a contestant the previous autumn during the series' 4th season.[6] During the finale show that aired during Thanksgiving week 2004, Velvick asked Mary Delgado to marry him in Spanish in order for her parents to be able to understand his proposal. Delgado accepted. After they became engaged, Delgado joined Velvick's tour and learned the sport. She is now a competing angler in her own right.[2] Velvick and Delgado ended their relationship in December 2009.[7] References1. ^{{cite web|url = http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/tournaments/elite/news/story?id=3292959|publisher = ESPN| title = Velvick starts Day Two with lead, grin}} 2. ^1 {{cite web|url = http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/tournaments/elite/news/story?id=3295151|publisher = ESPN| title = "We're Doing Great" - Velvick, Delgado weather storm}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.basszone.com/2007zlines/velvick2.htm |title=Byron Velvick Not Checking Out |publisher=Bass Zone |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20080704062722/http://basszone.com/2007zlines/velvick2.htm |archivedate=2008-07-04 |df= }} 4. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,699105,00.html|title=WEEK AHEAD: The Bachelor Doubles Up|work=People|author=Kappes, Serena|date=September 17, 2004|accessdate=March 10, 2015}} 5. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.ruggedelegantliving.com/a/003315.html |publisher=The Rugged Elegance Inspiration Network |title=There's Something About Mary: Bachelor Byron Velvick Offers Mary Delgado The Final Rose & A Ring |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20080506101543/http://www.ruggedelegantliving.com/a/003315.html |archivedate=2008-05-06 |df= }} 6. ^{{cite news|url = http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,312688,00.html|publisher = FOXNews.com|title = TMZ: 'Bachelorette' Mary Delgado Assaulted 'Bachelor' Fiance Byron Velvick | date=November 25, 2007}} 7. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.usmagazine.com/moviestvmusic/news/bachelor-couple-byron-velvick-mary-delgado-split-2009212|date=December 2, 2009|title=Exclusive: Bachelor Couple Byron Velvick, Mary Delgado Split|publisher=US magazine}} External links
