The species is endemic to Texas. Geographic rangeG. caglei is found only in the Guadalupe, San Antonio, and San Marcos Rivers in Texas.[3]EtymologyThe specific name, caglei, is in honor of American herpetologist Dr. Fred Ray Cagle (1915-1968).[4] DescriptionCagle's map turtle has intricate patterns on the carapace and plastron, as well as serrated edges on the posterior of the carapace, as is typical of all map turtles. It is smaller than most map turtles, and very sexually dimorphic, with males reaching only {{convert|4|in|cm|abbr=on}} straight carapace length, while females can exceed {{convert|7|in|cm|abbr=on}} in straight carapace length.[3] References1. ^{{Cite journal|author=van Dijk PP|title=Graptemys caglei |journal=The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species|volume=2011|page=e.T9497A97417639|publisher=IUCN|date=2011|url=http://www.iucnredlist.org/details/9497/0|doi=10.2305/IUCN.UK.2013.RLTS.T9497A12996153.en|access-date=24 December 2017}} 2. ^{{cite journal|journal=Vertebrate Zoology|title=Checklist of Chelonians of the World|year=2007|first=Uwe|last=Fritz|author2=Havaš, Peter|volume=57|issue=2|pages=186|id=|url=http://www.cnah.org/pdf_files/851.pdf|archiveurl=https://www.webcitation.org/5v20ztMND?url=http://www.cnah.org/pdf_files/851.pdf|archivedate=17 December 2010|deadurl=yes|df=dmy}} 3. ^1 {{cite web |url=http://www.graptemys.com/gcaglei.htm |title=Cagle's Map Turtle |publisher=Graptemys.com |accessdate=2011-05-25 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20110711123105/http://www.graptemys.com/gcaglei.htm |archivedate=11 July 2011 |df=dmy-all }} 4. ^Beolens, Bo; Watkins, Michael; Grayson, Michael (2011).
