"Shy" Huntington (July 7, 1891 – January 1973)[1] was a quarterback and later a multi-sport coach at the University of Oregon.[2] Playing and coaching careerHuntington began his football career as a quarterback and safety at the University of Oregon. He was the critical player in Oregon's Rose Bowl upset over heavily favored Pennsylvania in 1917, throwing a touchdown pass and intercepting three passes on defense as the Ducks won 14–0.[3] Huntington took over as head coach for the Ducks in 1918. He would coach the Ducks for six seasons. He finished with a 26–12–6 record. In 1919, he coached the Ducks to a Rose Bowl berth; they lost to Harvard, 7–6, on January 1, 1920.[3] He served as Oregon's baseball coach in 1919 and 1920,[4] and he coached the basketball team for one season, 1919–20, achieving a record of eight wins and nine losses.[5] Head coaching recordFootball{{CFB Yearly Record Start | type = coach | team = | conf = | bowl = | poll = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Subhead| name = Oregon Webfoots | conf = Pacific Coast Conference | startyear = 1918 | endyear = 1923 }}{{CFB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | year = 1918 | name = Oregon | overall = 4–2 | conference = 2–1 | confstanding = 2nd | bowlname = | bowloutcome = | bcsbowl = | ranking = no | ranking2 = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Entry | championship = conference | year = 1919 | name = Oregon | overall = 5–2 | conference = 2–1 | confstanding = T–1st | bowlname = Rose | bowloutcome = L | bcsbowl = | ranking = no | ranking2 = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | year = 1920 | name = Oregon | overall = 3–2–1 | conference = 1–1–1 | confstanding = T–3rd | bowlname = | bowloutcome = | bcsbowl = | ranking = no | ranking2 = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | year = 1921 | name = Oregon | overall = 5–1–3 | conference = 0–1–2 | confstanding = 5th | bowlname = | bowloutcome = | bcsbowl = | ranking = no | ranking2 = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | year = 1922 | name = Oregon | overall = 6–1–1 | conference = 3–0–1 | confstanding = 2nd | bowlname = | bowloutcome = | bcsbowl = | ranking = no | ranking2 = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | year = 1923 | name = Oregon | overall = 3–4–1 | conference = 0–4–1 | confstanding = 8th | bowlname = | bowloutcome = | bcsbowl = | ranking = no | ranking2 = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Subtotal | name = Oregon | overall = 26–12–6 | confrecord = 8–8–5 }}{{CFB Yearly Record End | overall = 26–12–6 | bowls = no | poll = no | polltype = }} References1. ^[https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=o2oRAAAAIBAJ&sjid=JOEDAAAAIBAJ&pg=6275,690104&dq=shy-huntington+oregon+football Shy Huntington's obituary] {{Oregon_Ducks_quarterback_navbox}}{{Oregon Ducks football coach navbox}}{{Oregon Ducks men's basketball coach navbox}}{{Oregon Ducks baseball coach navbox}}{{Authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Huntington, Shy}}2. ^McCann, Michael C.
