It contains the sole species Chilotilapia rhoadesii, the Malawi bream, which is endemic to Lake Malawi in East Africa, where it prefers areas with muddy substrates from the shallows to quite deep waters. Its primary food consists of Melanoides and Lanistes snails. It can reach a length of {{convert|22.5|cm|in}} TL. Though commonly called a "bream", this is due to its looks as it is quite unrelated to the breams proper, which are cypriniform fishes. This species is also found in the aquarium trade.[3] References1. ^{{cite iucn |author1=Konings, A.| author2 = Kasembe, J | last-author-amp = yes | year = 2018 | title = Chilotilapia rhoadesii | journal = The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species | volume = 2018 | page = e.T60885A47220538 | url = https://dx.doi.org/10.2305/IUCN.UK.2018-2.RLTS.T60885A47220538.en | accessdate = 2 December 2018}} {{Taxonbar|from=Q929129}}{{Cichlidae-stub}}2. ^{{Cof record|genid=5462|title=Chilotilapia|access-date=2 December 2018}} 3. ^{{FishBase species |genus= Chilotilapia|species= rhoadesii| month = February | year = 2013}} 5 : Haplochromini|Fish of Africa|Taxa named by George Albert Boulenger|Monotypic ray-finned fish genera|Cichlid genera |
