}}Cladosictis is an extinct genus of South American metatherian from Patagonia, Argentina (Chichinales, Cerro Bandera, Sarmiento and Santa Cruz Formations) and Chile (Río Frias Formation).[2] DescriptionIt was an otter-like creature of about {{convert|80|cm|ft}} long. Its body and tail were long, the limbs were short. Cladosictis probably hunted small creatures in low undergrowth, using its low posture for cover. Possibly, it also stole bird and reptile eggs. With sharp canines and slicing carnassials, Cladosictiss teeth were similar to those of carnivorans, although the groups were unrelated.[3] References{{portal|Paleontology|Neogene|Prehistoric mammals|Prehistory of South America}}1. ^Hathliacynidae {{Taxonbar|from=Q2542524}}{{paleo-marsupial-stub}}2. ^Cladosictis at Fossilworks.org 3. ^{{cite book |editor=Palmer, D.|year=1999 |title= The Marshall Illustrated Encyclopedia of Dinosaurs and Prehistoric Animals|publisher= Marshall Editions|location=London|pages= 202–203|isbn= 1-84028-152-9}} 10 : Sparassodonts|Miocene mammals of South America|Santacrucian|Friasian|Neogene Argentina|Fossils of Argentina|Neogene Chile|Fossils of Chile|Fossil taxa described in 1887|Taxa named by Florentino Ameghino |
