It took place in Chartreuse Mountains, beginning in Chambéry and finishing in Aix-les-Bains. It was held between 1991 and 2004, a day before the start of the Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré. Following the 2004 edition, Jean-Marie Leblanc, head of the organising body the Amaury Sport Organisation, announced the race would no longer take place as the cycling teams were not supportive of the race.[1] Charly Mottet, the first winner of the race, said that the race would have been more successful in August, following the Tour de France, as the climbing specialists would have been in form.[2] In 1995, a junior version of the Classique des Alpes was organised, which was continued after the senior version was cancelled.[3] Winners Elite race{{Cycling past winner start}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=1991|name={{sortname|Charly|Mottet}}|nat=FRA|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=1992|name={{sortname|Gilles|Delion}}|nat=FRA|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=1993|name={{sortname|Eddy|Bouwmans}}|nat=NED|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=1994|name={{sortname|Oliverio|Rincon}}|nat=COL|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=1995|name={{sortname|Ramon|Gonzalez Arrieta}}|nat=ESP|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=1996|name={{sortname|Laurent|Jalabert}}|nat=FRA|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=1997|name={{sortname|Laurent|Roux}}|nat=FRA|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=1998|name={{sortname|Laurent|Jalabert}}|nat=FRA|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=1999|name={{sortname|Unai|Osa}}|nat=ESP|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=2000|name={{sortname|José María|Jiménez||Jimenez, Jose Maria}}|nat=ESP|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=2001|name={{sortname|Iban|Mayo}}|nat=ESP|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=2002|name={{sortname|Santiago|Botero}}|nat=COL|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=2003|name={{sortname|Francisco|Mancebo}}|nat=ESP|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=2004|name={{sortname|Óscar|Pereiro||Pereiro, Oscar}}|nat=ESP|team=}}{{Cycling past winner end}}Winners junior race{{Cycling past winner start}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=1995|name={{sortname|Grégory|Lapalud||Lapalud, Gregory}}|nat=FRA|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=1996|name={{sortname|Loïc|Lamouller||Lamouller, Loic}}|nat=FRA|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=1997|name={{sortname|Roel|Egelmeers}}|nat=NED|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=1998|name={{sortname|Julien|Laidoun}}|nat=FRA|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=1999|name={{sortname|Pieter|Weening}}|nat=NED|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=2000|name={{sortname|Mikael|Malle}}|nat=FRA|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=2001|name={{sortname|Marc de|Maar}}|nat=NED|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=2002|name={{sortname|Florian|Vachon}}|nat=FRA|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=2003|name={{sortname|Julien|Loubet}}|nat=FRA|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=2004|name={{sortname|Pieter|Jacobs}}|nat=BEL|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=2005|name={{sortname|Alexandr|Pliuschin}}|nat=MDA|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=2006|name={{sortname|Jan|Ghyselinck}}|nat=BEL|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=2007|name={{sortname|Fabien|Taiilefer}}|nat=FRA|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=2008|name={{sortname|Johan|Le Bon}}|nat=FRA|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=2009|name={{sortname|Tim|Wellens}}|nat=BEL|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=2010|name={{sortname|Alexis|Dulin}}|nat=FRA|team=}}{{Cycling past winner rider|year=2011|name={{sortname|Pierre-Roger|Latour}}|nat=FRA|team=}}{{Cycling past winner end}}References1. ^{{cite news |title=La fin de la Classique des Alpes |publisher=Agence France Presse |date=2004-10-20 |language=French}} 2. ^{{cite news |title=La Classique des Alpes disparaît |work=L'Equipe |date=2004-10-21 |language=French }} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.letour.fr/2011/CAJ/COURSE/fr/histoire_palmaresdepuis.html|title=Le palmarès depuis 1995|publisher=Amaury Sport Organisation}} External links
