It is located about {{convert|3|mi}} east of Leyburn. Its main attraction is the gardens of Constable Burton Hall. It takes its name from Burton meaning a fortified settlement in Old English and Conestable as it was granted in 1100 to Roald who was the Chief Constable for the Earl of Richmond.[2][3]{{clear left}} The Wyvill Arms hotel stands opposite the entrance to the Constable Burton caravan site. The establishment is named for the Wyvill family of Constable Burton Hall. From 1856 to 1954 Constable Burton railway station on the Wensleydale Railway served the village, hall and the rural community. A passing loop is located at the site. See also
