The song became Sylvester's first Top 40 hit in the United States, where it peaked at #19 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the fall of 1978,[1] it also reached #29 on the UK Singles Chart.[2] The song appears on his 1978 album, Step II. A 12" single was released in 1978, with "Dance (Disco Heat)" as the A-side and "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)" as the B-side, and these two extended dance mixes proved to be very popular in the dance clubs at the time. The two songs held down the top spot on the Billboard Dance/Disco chart for six weeks in August and September of that year [3] and helped to establish Sylvester's career as a noted disco and dance music performer, both in the U.S. and abroad.
