Ambulance Service before entering politics.[2][3] He has a BA and professional teaching certificate, and a health and fitness certificate from Simon Fraser University.[4] Political careerMussatto was first elected as a councillor in the City of North Vancouver in 1993, and served four consecutive terms before being elected mayor.[3] He was also the city's representative on the Metro Vancouver board of directors, where he served as chair of the Utilities Committee, and as a member of the Intergovernmental and Administration, Regional Planning, Performance and Procurement and Mayors committees and the Regional Economy Task Force. [5] His political priorities as mayor include sustainability, affordability and homelessness. Projects he has championed have included making the city more bike-friendly, reducing energy use, managing liquid and solid waste in an environmentally sustainable manner, and supporting urban gardening. On November 15, 2014, Mussatto was re-elected for a fourth term as mayor in the City of North Vancouver, defeating challengers Kerry Morris and George Pringle.[2] Development in the Lonsdale Quay area was one of the bigger issues of the campaign.[2][6] Lonsdale Quay, a historic shipbuilding/industrial district, is now the site of development of new housing, improved public transit, better bikeways and public spaces, and added cultural amenities including a new home for the Presentation House Gallery.[7][8] During his tenure, the city won several honours for its planning and environmental policies. This included the Climate and Energy Award from the Community Energy Association for encouraging sustainable travel to and from schools.
