David Cerda (born June 13, 1961, Hammond, Indiana) is an American performer and playwright based in Chicago, Illinois. He is currently the artistic director for Hell In A Handbag Productions. His campy, highly theatrical plays have made him an infamous icon within the Chicago theater scene. He has written and appeared in a transgressive adaptation of Rudolph, the Red-Hosed Reindeer, How ‘What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?’ Happened and POSEIDON! An Upside-Down Musical[1] which won the New York International Fringe Festival Best Ensemble Award. His most recent works include the original late-night parody, s'Carrie! The Musical, The Birds by David Cerda and Pauline Pang (including a special benefit performance for the SHAMBALA preserve guest starring the original stars of the film, The Birds, Tippi Hedren and Veronica Cartwright, and Caged Dames.[2] Hell In A Handbag Productions also revived Rudolph The Red Hosed Reindeer[3] for the Christmas, 2006 season. Rudolph also ran during the holiday season at TheSpyAnts Theatre Company in Hollywood and is now in its 10th year in Chicago, Illinois.Cerda also co-founded a rock band, The Joans, dedicated to giving screen legend Joan Crawford a rock and roll voice.
