H. E. Debolt, an early postmaster, gave the community his last name.[3]The hamlet is located in census division No. 18. GeographyDeBolt is located in Peace Country, {{convert|58|km|mi|abbr=on}} east from Grande Prairie and {{convert|54|km|mi|abbr=on}} west of Valleyview along Highway 43. It lies in the Smoky River valley, at an elevation of {{convert|640|m|ft|abbr=on}}. It gives the name to the Debolt Formation, a stratigraphical unit first described in a well located {{convert|10|km|mi}} north of the settlement.[4] DemographicsAs a designated place in the 2016 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, DeBolt recorded a population of 121 living in 55 of its 78 total private dwellings, a change of {{percentage|{{#expr:121-133}}|133|1}} from its 2011 population of 133. With a land area of {{convert|2.79|km2|sqmi|abbr=on}}, it had a population density of {{Pop density|121|2.79|km2|sqmi|prec=1}} in 2016.[5] As a designated place in the 2011 Census, DeBolt had a population of 133 living in 64 of its 76 total dwellings, a 3.9% change from its 2006 population of 128. With a land area of {{convert|2.81|km2|sqmi|abbr=on}}, it had a population density of {{Pop density|133|2.81|km2|sqmi}} in 2011.[6] Economy{{unreferenced section|date=July 2012}}The economy is based on agriculture, ranching and oil and gas. Forestry, logging and plywood production are other elements of the economy. Star Industries, Star Fabrication, DeBolt Contracting, P&G Kitchens, and Moore Seed are some of the main employers of the area.
